Barometers forecast changing weather by measuring change in atmospheric pressure. Sea captains, especially, keep their eye on the barometer to navigate their ships away from approaching storms. There's a salty saying- "When the needle falls low, strong winds will blow". You don't need to be a ship's captain to use a barometer. They are easy and fun to use. Just turn the center knob so that the brass needle is over the black barometer needle. Come back in an hour or two and see whether the barometer needle is rising or falling and test your forecasting skills against the Weather Channel. A falling Barometer means a storm is approaching. A rising barometer indicates the storm is passing.
There is no winding or battery needed.
The double bellows barometer case is forged brass with etched and silvered brass dial.
The barometer movement is made in France.
