For centuries, shells have been used as an artistic material. With a little imagination, a hot glue gun and a few materials that are easily found in the craft section of a department store, the possibilities are endless!

  • Fill a bowl with shells and use as a centerpiece.

  • Put a conch or other large shell in a garden or birdbath.

  • String shells to make a necklace.

  • Glue shells to a flower pot.

  • Hot glue a magnet to the back of a shell, to hold notes on the refrigerator.

  • Place a single shell on a shelf for a dramatic effect.

  • A lamp filled with shells you collect is extra special.

  • A large scallop, cockle or quahog shell makes a great serving plate for hors d’oeuvres.

  • Place shells into cement for an interesting patio.

  • After you have arranged fresh or dried flowers in a vase, drop shells into the vase. The shells will hold the arrangement.

  • Crushed shells make a beautiful and interesting driveway and/or walkway. There are companies that are able to obtain the quantities of shells needed.
