The ship's clock and the sextant were necessary navigation instruments required by early explorers and traders to determine longitude. Without these instruments many ships and sailors met their demise, even in familiar waters, because they didn't know their exact location. Many collided with reefs that could have been avoided if their location had been pinpointed.

A sturdy wooden box was typically used to hold and protect the valuable ship's clock. Early versions of these old clocks can be seen at Maritime Museums such as Mystic Seaport in Connecticut.

Today we offer these authentic "box clocks" with a more reliable and accurate quartz movement. This modern quartz clock is made with a high quality German movement and then mounted in a beautiful solid wood mahogany finish box. It rests in a traditional polished brass ship’s chronometer gimbal with locking arm.

The 5.75” square box has polished brass fittings and is provided with a brass plate for personalization. This elegant instrument will be displayed with pride for years to come. Fresh "N" battery is included.

Dial: 2-3/8". Box: 5-3/4" x 5-3/4" x 3-3/4".

Availability: Usually ships in 5-7 business days.
